Rifle found at Williamsburg VA in 1776 - article
« on: May 25, 2021, 10:05:57 PM »
Came across this other article published in Williamsburg Virginia.   I clipped this a while ago and just saw it while looking for the article to share in the other thread with Scott.  Anyone ever see a rifle barrel with this maker mark?  The attached article was published April 12, 1776.  I assume they mean it was rifled with 12 grooves.

Refers to the rifle as "her"--as Oerter does about the rifle he made for Martin Baer in 1773.

What the heck does "...the spring of the box out..." mean?   ???
Strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government!

"Spring of the box out" perhaps means that it is missing or broken.
