He waited 47 years to sell the rifle?
But the purchaser claims he knew it was stolen in 1980...
You'd think someone would ask those questions BEFORE it was published.

It would be a good idea for everyone to read all of this again, as this type of $#@* happens all the time. This time, the public was deprived of admiring and appreciating a very historical rifle for many decades by a selfish, self-serving individual.

Museum burglaries are terrible.  There have been a lot of artifacts (notably engravings in books, and entire books) stolen from national libraries the past few years too.  Caretakers cannot trust that people wanting to see things are not also wanting to take things.
