I had an order for a simple Appalachian bag with few extras. This is the result. It is another attempt by me at a "broken in" or "worn in" finish. I like the way it came out. It'd be easy to just beat a bag up when finished, but I want a strong, supple bag that will last, so it takes me a bit of work. Sort of like "aging" a long rifle. I do the finishing and antiquing before I assemble the bag.
I think this one would look nice with a Hughes or Whitson rifle.
It's 3-4 ounce Veg tanned cowhide, with 4-5 ounce veg tanned straps and a buckskin rolled top edge. The pocket is bridle leather. The bag is about 8"x 8". The buckle is wrought iron. All hand stitched with 4-ply waxed Irish linen for longevity.
I hope y'all enjoy the photos. God Bless, Marc
