In pursuit of the Running Deer
« on: July 28, 2021, 10:38:23 PM »
As many of us know, the original version of the famous Running Deer rifle recently sold at auction for a very handsome sum! Well, I’ve been keeping a keen eye on a very nice reproduction of said gun being made by my buddy Keith Vance. Long story short, I ended up the proud owner. Keith did a fantastic job recreating this piece with very little study material. The only part that he didn’t do on this one was put all of those little brass nails in the buttstock, for better or worse I got that job. The “Maestro” Randall Cantrall came up with the stock color and finish. The gun sports a 44” B profile FCI barrel in 50 cal. I’ll have this one at CLA for y’all to play with.
Enjoy!!

That first Pic is Great, nothing wrong with the others either, just that first one sets things off. Beautiful rifle.

I forgot to send out a big THANK YOU to Seth and the team at Rock Island for those high resolution pictures of the original. Without them I could only guess where all those wacky 42 nails correctly went on the stock. It would not have been complete without them and would have been wrong without correct placement.

Great contemporary rifle. In my opinion Keith knocked that rendition out of the park.  Your brass nail job just finished it off. Look forward to seeing the rifle in a couple of weeks.

Can’t wait to see it in person.  Have loved the original ever since I first saw it.

Great rifle Wayne!

Can't believe I went back to the pictures and counted those nails. ;D

My oh my what a beautiful rifle. Are you actually going to shoot this or just hang it up for all to see?

This rifle was one of the real highlights from the show last weekend. It was already an amazing piece, but you adding in the pins really takes it up a notch.

Keith is a talented builder and he did a great job on this rifle and your finishing touches made it complete.
