First Hawk
« on: December 22, 2021, 12:02:01 AM »
Hey All, finished this kit as a break from other projects. The head is investment cast but I tried to make it look forged. Not as cool as the real deal but I like how it came out and wanted to share. The engraving on the head I chase engraved with homemade graver, inspired by eastern woodland face/head tattoos from period paintings, file work to match. Thanks for looking!

Thanks Keith!

This was the first thing I tried to age to look old and used, it was tough getting the metal to rust at first. I had this thing shined up like a new penny at one point but I didn't like it, it needed some character. This project gave me a whole new respect for guys who can make a brand new gun look like an old relic and I mean that as a very high compliment. I wish I knew what to do to make the wood look older or even more caked with stuff but all the waxes I tried just weren't looking right so I ultimately went with some layers of bone black. I'd love any feedback from the forum members on how to age it better.

I think you did an excellent job with the aging, very appealing.
