Wow, very nice pieces on display here!
To be clear, what is considered a "club butt" or "club foot" stock? Is it a generally beefier buttstock with thicker wood near the buttplate? Or is it also a shape (like Rich Pierce's first fowler pictured above)?
What was the purpose of the club butt? I surmise it may have been a feature that lent itself well to defending oneself in a fight, but I could see where perhaps it was meant to add weight and reduce felt recoil.
