Carved and scrimshaw'd Powder Horn
« on: January 23, 2022, 12:31:09 AM »
This was an enjoyable powder horn to make and decorate. The scrimshawing work took a lot more time to do than shaping and plugging the horn itself.
It is my tenth horn of recent. I like using the hunting lad motif and the inscription. I couldn't come up with something to do in the last panel, so I went with a map of the area of NJ that I grew up in.
I kind-of like how it turned out.

DANG Bob, that is a beauty.  I think this is your best.  I like the caramel color you have gotten on a couple lately, and your engraving is really nice.  Very bold.  Nice deep color on the tip too.   You are hitting your stride with this one.   God Bless,   Marc

very,  very high level of artificial work.

I just tried to do some scrimshaw decoration of my first horn, and  now I can appreciate the great art behind this work.
