TC Renegade convertion

I am converting my .54 cal Renegade into a rifled .62 cal. I got the barrel from Long Hammock and my percussion plug in from Track. I plan on cutting the barrel back to about 26 inches once its all said and done.

Question is how do I fit this so it is flush with the breech and lines up with the flats? Do I take some off of the barrel? or the Plug?

I photo below shows the original factory barrel and the new barrel with the plug screwed in as far as it would go. Using a set of automotive feeler gauges the gap measures .021 " of a inch.

First you need to find out why it is stopping where it is, is the plug length longer than tapped portion of barrel or is the tapping of threads not completely done to the shoulder where tap meets bore. Then again not knowing thread size I'm not sure if there is much of a shoulder in a .62. Breeching is the sometimes tedious process or filing the plug and or barrel until you get a fit simultaneously with the plug face and shoulder where tap meets bore and the shoulder of the breech and the barrel. The filing needs to preserve the 90 degree angle of both plug face and end of barrel. some Prussian blue or inletting black is used to let you know where you need to remove metal.
I don't know how much torque you applied to the breech but usually you need to use a bit of muscle to get the most travel when fitting the breech.

oops- forgot to say folks on this board kinda like newbies to say a bit about themslves when they first post. And being a bit of a recoil whimp the thoughts of a 26inch .62 mkes my shoulder hurt just thinking about it.

For what its worth, I agree...and recoil is only one of the elements...my experience with some 33" GM .62cal drop in barrels, both smoothbore and rifled, is that I wouldn't want them any shorter as increased velocity and accuracy from the longer barrel are both a big plus

I agree with Roundball... Wouldn't go much shorter than thirty six inches with a bore that big.

just oneguy;s free advice, and no doubt worth every penny!

I have three  .62 caliber flintlocks--two with 42" barrels and one with 24" barrels--(it's a swivel breech). Recoil is less with the swivel breech due to it being a bit heavier than the other guns. I think weight rather than barrel length is a better recoil reducer, all else being equal.
Now, muzzle blast is another thing altogether. The swivel breech gives a nice bark indeed!
