Not another SMR
« on: January 31, 2022, 04:46:15 AM »
Instead of another SMR, I decided to build 2 pistols for some friends to use in our pistol matches this year. These were cobbled together from parts on hand. The 45 cal barrels are from Rice and the single set triggers and small Manton locks are from L&R. Triggerguards are brass. The butt caps are copper - just because I had a piece of copper big enough.

Nicely done.  Nothing “cobbled together” there.  I’ve used copper accents on a couple of my recent builds, and I really like the contrast with brass.

Nifty looking pistols.  No RR?

Nope Daryl. No ramrods. These are just target pistols for our local matches.

To me,the best looking muzzle loaders are the target rifles both English and American that have no rod
or anything else under the barrel. In the early 70's I was shooting a lot and made up a walnut half stock
cap lock with a 1x34" octagon Bill Large barrel with a bolster breech and no rod.Good sights are a must
and they are easy to buy and make.I made a bar in wood lock and used a Hawken long bar trigger because
I had one made up and ready.I sold it and later found out it was destroyed in a bad house fire that almost
took the owner with it.The pistols shown here are to me,really nice and the maker obviously has skill set
that works well. Thanks for showing these two fine pieces.
