By no means am I a collector. But the price that rifle garnered has more to do with its provenance than it does the rifle itself. Very few pieces out there that can be traced back to the battle of Monmouth.
Just because it is stocked in maple does not mean it was stocked in the colonies. The description on the auction catalogue says it is signed by I Behr. Not much else, as there is no inscription on the barrel, just the lock.
