Swamped barrels

Were any halfstock rifles ever built with swamped barrels? What style rifle would a 38" D profile .62 cal go . Maybe a English Sporter or a Jaeger?

You could go with an English sporting rifle or a long barrel Jaeger with such a barrel.  I presently hunt with a fullstock circa. 1790 62 cal. English sporting rifle that uses this barrel.  I have made half stock English sporting rifles by cutting the barrel back to 32" thus making it a tapered barrel.  You have to cut the barrel from the muzzle to do this.  I know some O/C people have an objection about cutting the muzzle of a barrel, but it is no problem and recrowning is not difficult.  You have a lot of possibilities with such a barrel.

I have an original half stock that has an older replacement barrel that is swamped. The half stock was built in the 1860's, it's current barrel is from the late 1700 to early 1800's. The barrel has been on several rifles according to the lug dovetail locations and is big bore with a pretty heavy swamp. I have another original half stock that has a straight tapered barrel that is original to the gun.

This one is swamped:
Joseph Lang, circa:1853 16 bore.
This is the original finish, BTW - not re-finished

There is a J & S Hawken half stock rifle in the Montana Historical Society museum with a swamped 39" barrel.
