pocket horn?

I don't normally do more than look at horns, but this one was odd enough that it followed me home.

1-3/8" x 2-5/8" x 8", the plug might be pine

That is a neat find and I like it too.  The work at the spout end is very interesting.  Thanks for sharing the photos.

 Neat horn, the carving on the tip is well done. At first I wondered about the screw but in the first pic  there looks to be some ware on the lower two-thirds where it rubbed against something. Being flat, having the right twist, set up like it is I would think it would carry well on the right and fit close not in the way of your elbow.

Looks like a moderate sized New England horn made to accompany a small caliber "small game" rifle [ I don't think you can call a small bore New England rifle a "squirrel rifle," or someone will object!]. It's an attractive little horn with a very nice spout tip. The flat, soft wood (pine) butt plug is a strong indication it's an eastern horn.

Despite being flat, it appears to be a right side carry horn, echo Tim's earlier comments.
