There is no singular object that is more representative of the Revolutionary War than The William Knox Gorget in the Ticonderoga Collections. William had his British Officers Gorget over engraved and stamped to obliterate the King George Cypher and replaced with the Boston Intendant Company logo.It is one of my favorite objects from that time period. My latest gorget is based on that object using only the Boston Independent Company art.At some point I will recreate the original using both cyphers and in Gilded Brass. The last image are the stamps I made out of o1 drill rod to replicate the stamps on the gorget.

Mitch, both gorgets have a lot of cool factor to them. Is the original brass or gold gild?

Hey Brian
Gorgets in the 18th Century were either sterling silver or brass with gold gilding.I have never seen a brass one that was'nt guilded. So to answer your question the original was brass with gold guilding.

Makes since. I don't think I've ever seen an original in person up close.

Beautiful work. We had a whole bunch of these original gorgets handed down in our family from before the Revolution. They were stolen when we moved my grandmother. Heartbreaking. Nice to see such great recreations here
