Thanks Taylor.

Would like to get out one more time.  Depends on the weather and family commitments.

Just got back from one of my favorite rendezvous by the Mimbres river in New Mexico. I hope to go out with my Hawken sometime this week. I need to start practicing with that rifle to get in shape for the Hawken Classic. Weather be !@*%&@ I plan to shoot.

Heard from a friend down in Yuma that it's mid 30C temps this week (95F) & time for them to head North - getting too hot.

Well finally got back out again to try and see if I  can shoot anything close to respectable. I should be shooting with a bigger bore to increase my odds of cutting at least two lines. I shot this using my newly built by Don Bruton .36 caliber Soddy-Daisy. I used a .350 round ball, 40 grains of Goex3F, a.20 spit patch. Not sure how this one scored. Since I cut 2 lines and got one ball in each of the quadrants is this a score of 30? Shot from a seated position as I can't get up if I lay prone. I will defer to the match host to determine my score. Going back out Thursday with my .54 and try one last set of targets.

Ahh - yes, I see your point. 2 of my targets then would also score 30/40.
Still need a 40/40 to win, though, with a smaller 5-shot "group" than alacran posted.

I was out sighting in a 54 Kibler today and thought I would give this a go from a rest. I found out that, near as I can tell from shooting round aiming points, and then the black and white “pie slice”  target that my eye don’t like  the pie target much.
(Other excuses deleted  :o)

The two down in the turkey head were shot about 40-60? minutes apart the last one after I had shot 50 yards the “pie” target and was  ?????

Daryl and I got out to the range again today, and did some shooting.  Bitter sweet for me...I shot two perfect scores 40/40, but my rifle fell over onto the ice and broke through the lock area, as they are prone to do when subjected to such a catastrophe.  Luckily, the builder is a great guy and will honour his warrantee on his builds, so I get a new rifle out of the deal (eventually)

Here's today's targets:

Great shooting Taylor!
There is a guy in Canada who has great tutorials on rifle building.
You should look him up.
Don't think he has one on how to avoid gravity though.

Obviously, I have nothing to post.   :D I could not improve upon my earlier efforts.
He shot well indeed, with the Hawken. I should add that one of those targets was shot
after the gun fell over and cracked the stock, both sides. Taylor reduced his load to 60 some gr.
of powder and continued to finish the target, at least 2 shots, and maybe 3.

Went out to shoot yesterday it was a glorious day. 72 degrees wind under 5 mph. Got to the creek bottom set out my target.
Had every intention to shoot my .54 Hawken. Got it out of the gun sleeve, when I opened my shooting box. I realized that since I didn't take any caplocks to the rendezvous I went to last week, I didn't think to put my capper or caps in the box.
Well, I wasn't going to waste an hour going home to get caps and returning. So, I functioned fired a .61 caliber Jaeger that is 99% finished.
I found that the .600 balls I had are very tight, even with .010 patching. I tried some .570s with .023 patching which is way too loose and destroys the patching due to blow by. Those shot all over the place. I am going to order some .590 balls and shoot them before I acquire a mold.
We are supposed to have another glorious day today.  Put my capper and caps back in the shooting box, and I will try it once again.

Got out again today. This time I brought caps and capper.
It was 68 degrees when I got to the range. Light breeze out of the Southwest.
First target was the one on the left. I couldn't find direct center. It seems my eye just got drawn to the holes of the previous shots.
The second target my second shot had hit center. When I looked through the scope it was just a hair high. The last three shots did not help me.7
I shot the targets offhand, with my GRRW barreled  .54 Hawken.
60 grains Goex 2f, .530 ball, Jo Anns pocket drill, bear lube.

Alacran:  thanks for giving it a second try.  Your targets score 20/40 and 10/40.  You have too many holes in some quadrants and none in others.
May I suggest sitting on a short stool, resting your right elbow (the one with the rifle) on your right knee.  This is the rest I use and it pays off.  Also, turn your target so that the quadrants are above each other rather than off to the side.  That gave me a better aiming point.  I envy you your weather.

Thanks for the suggestion. But at 25 yards I like shooting offhand. Its about having fun, and I already have a perfect score on one target. By the way, we are going to get snow on Tuesday.

Snow and -16 Sunday, then minus 13 with high winds Monday. Minus 11 today and going to minus 13 tonight. Wednesday is freezing rain and snow.  Maybe Thursday I'll get to shoot this target  ;D    I still went for a walk today, but the woods are silent .

Geez Bob, you've got it rough there in Ontario.  We're at 54 degrees N here on the left coast and enjoying + 10 deg. daily with clear skies and tiny wind.  I hope the weather improves for you in the next few days...be sure to enter April's frolic if you can.

Last week the sap was flowing and I was boiling back at my camp. Then this polar air  flow hit and down went the temps .   The good news is that Thursday is supposed to have us back in the low to mid teens .  I'm printing some targets in anticipation  :)

Tomorrow, Thursday March 31, is the last day for the March Postal Shoot.  Currently Alacran is leading with a 40/40.  If there's a tie, I'll take your second best score submitted to break the tie.

Well April is upon us!  So March's event is concluded, and the winner is........Alacran with a 40/40.  Congratulations to you sir.  You have the honour of sponsoring April's competition.
Six members submitted targets in March, and I'd like to see that number doubled in the coming months.  Daryl and Muskrat Mike deserve honourable mention for excellent targets.

This was a more difficult target than it looked. Taylor did an outstanding job on it. I hoped all who shot it had a good time with it.
