Another after a horn on pages 72 and 73 of Dr. Jay Hopkins' book, "Bone tipped & Banded Horns Vol II".
It is 13 1/2" around the outside curve and 11 1/2 tip-to-tip. The Cherry but is about 2 1/4", it is held in by the 6 Brass nails and 6 wooden pegs that hold the base band in place. The tip is made up of two pieces of Antler the tip is pinned the collar with 3 wooden pegs an then to the horn with 3 more.
The color on the butt is an oil based Mahogany leather dye, sanded back and coated with Brown shoe polish. The body has Dark Brown oil based leather dye on it rubbed back with 0000 steel wool. The tip has a little Saddle Tan dye on it wiped on, quickly rubbed of, a coat of Brown shoe polish then buffed.
