Patchbox on a Southern Gun

Hello again,

I'm continuously giving thought to what I would like to do to this Kibler SMR kit that I'll be purchasing at some point, and I have been going back and forth on 1. If I should do a patchbox, and 2. If I do a patchbox, do I even want to do a cigar or banana shaped patchbox? I have recently fallen in love the with the Jos. Bogle rifle after looking at it in my copy of Kentucky Rifles of The Great Smoky Mountains. I realize that it is not really the same style as other SMR guns, but I really like the simple iron patchbox on it more than I like the banana or cigar shaped patchboxes out of western NC and East TN.

So what I am asking now is, what do you guys think of putting a Bogle style patchbox on the Kibler SMR kit? I know in the end I'm the one that will have to live with it, but I do like to hear other's opinions on the matter.

  Just my opinion but if you like it so it. Most people know the difference between an N.C. gun or a East Tennessee gun
. Plus back in the day I doubt very much if people even cared as long as their gun functioned properly.. JMHO.   Oldtravler

That Bogle box might not fall exactly into the Whitson style but it could be made plausible. Your main issue in my opinion is how to install the box while dealing with the deep crescent of the butt plate. You’re going to end up with very sharp corners on both top and bottom of the door.
 I have seen other of these kits done with a modified finial (you can choose the design) on a traditional Tennessee or banana patchbox. Inlet where you don’t interfere with the butt plate.
