That looks really good.

Thanks Keith it's already darkened up since I took that photo.

Stock has reached its final shape and I've applied my customary coat of wood preservative. It's not stained yet.

So what is next in your barrel finishing process? I'm liking the look.

Here's what it looks like tonight with one coat of cold brown. Next in the morning rub back lightly and neutralize the acid and then oil.

Two coats of stain with hand forged hardware.

Is it as thin and wispy as it looks?

I'm going to call it done right here. Jack's rifle was used as inspiration for this build but it's not an exact copy nor was it intended to be. It is however my interpretation of a hand Forged Soddy Daisy flintlock rifle.

I hope you enjoy the pictures and the documentation that went with this build from beginning to end.

Very nice, Dan. That hardware really makes the gun.

Looks like that Ash was “trying” to work with.

Very nice work! That thing is beautiful. I also love the ash and brass/steel furniture combination. I'm no wood afficionado, but that ash looks amazingly like oak!

Thanks everyone it came out the way I wanted it. The weight is less than 1 oz heavier than 7 lb and Uncle Jack's rifle is less than 1 oz under 7 lb. All in all a very fun and rewarding project!

Totally awesome, Dan!  What a great looking rifle.  It is so close to Jack's that at a glance I can hardly tell them apart.  Great job and wonderful tutorial!

Whatcha got for us next?

This has been a fantastic record of your hand made Soddy Daisy.  It turned out to be a really fine looking rifle and your excellent craftsmanship shows through.  Thanks again.
