Bag #47 - Ian Pratt inspired Snake Bag II
« on: April 19, 2022, 05:50:45 PM »
Seeing Ian Pratt's recent gun inspired me to add a snake to another bag.  This is a straightforward, 7-1/2" square bag, W&C veg tanned cowhide.  Lined with heavy cotton canvas.  Cowhide stiffener and strap anchor inside top back.  Saddle stitched with waxed Irish linen.  Rolled top edge is goatskin (thank you Bob Hill).  The welt is buckskin.  The snake is scribed into the flap and dyed black.  Strap is 4-5 ounce cowhide.  Brass buckle from Richard Lanni.  The vertical wrinkles on the front panel were in the hide when I got it.  I arranged it when cutting so the wrinkles show.  I think it goes well with the worn-in look of the bag.

I will have this bag in Knoxville if I don't get selected for jury duty.  Say a few prayers for me to get out of being selected as a juror.  Nothing against serving, just the timing is awful for a Knoxville trip.

God Bless and best wishes,   Marc

Hiss, hiss. In this context hissing indicates approval. Apart from the snake, which looks good, I like the proportions of this one and the wrinkled, "worn-in" look is nice.

Re: jury duty, I can sympathize. I am moving over to the overnight shift at work this week, which puts the kibosh on me travelling anywhere or taking a day off for awhile. I missed the show back in 2019 in part for very similar reasons - I promised myself a consolation visit to the Museum of Appalachia "as soon as things settle down" which I have yet to take...

Snakes...why did it have to be snakes!!
Marc, Your work continues to amaze and impress. Another outstanding bag you have made. I truly love the bag that you made me and I know folks who have one of your bags feels the same. Can't wait to see what you have lined up next. Regards, Bill

Don't worry capgun.  The snake just slithered there during the photo session in the sun.  It has since slithered off.    ;-)   LOL

Nothing against spiders, I just prefer them outside.

Snakes we like in our family.  Our Ball Python "Bo" now lives with my daughter and son-in-law.  She can now keep up with the regular feedings.    :-)   We thought Bo was a goner 5 years ago due to a skin infection, but the vet finally got him cleared up.   $1,000+ later.

My constant companion these days is my greyhound.

God Bless,   Marc

I got a rattlesnake skin belt and buckle from a yard sale once. Had it in the house for a week before I threw it away. Gave the creeps big time. :o

Hey, they go nice together David.  Thank you for the photo.  Now for a horn.   There may be one or two good horners around.    :-)   God Bless,   Marc

If you want to get out of jury duty just tell them youre really opinionated and you’ve never changed your mind in your life. Very cool bag.
