Poppy,
A Tschinke has a light open lock,  for a lightweight  gun.   It would be nice to see a Tschinke   build though, just not with this lock!

best,
Richard.

Well, I found that book that was suggested several of you by Brooker. I really do appreciate the leads. Too bad it costs $3,500! Think I need to shop a little bit. Or maybe I need to build a SMR after all, I can get pictures of those for free.

Email the museum. Should cost around 130$ with shipping. They list it for 69$.

Hi Deepcreekdale,
Wow!  I paid nothing like that for my copy.  I think I paid just over $100 for it 10 years ago.  Man these small edition firearm history books really grow in value.  My library must currently be worth 10s of thousands of dollars.  I bought a copy of Keith Neal's "British Gunmakers Their Trade Cards, Cases, and Equipment".  It is only 166 pages and cost $110 when I bought it a decade ago.  Now you cannot find a copy for less than $260.  Anyway, you might see if you can find a copy of Graeme Rimer's "Wheellock Firearms in the Royal Armory".  It should be a lot cheaper but still not trivial.  By the way, as DavidC wrote above, the Landeszeughaus museum has Brooker's book listed through them for 65 euros or about $130.

65 euros = 69$ but they spank you on shipping.

I'm awaiting a response for an email about the book myself but I just sent it a couple hours ago. I'll pass on word if I hear anything.

I'm sorry for the delay but I've been updated on ordering that book from Graz and it looks to cost just a bit more than what Dave paid for it. I was just told the book is 65 euro and the shipping to Pittsburgh would be 75 euro so around 136$ shipped.

You can email Daniela Assel  to place an order: daniela.assel@museum-joanneum.at

Her contact info is also on the site for the Styrian Armouries and you can speak to her on the phone but remember that she will be 6-8 hours ahead of US timezones.

I'm going to order a copy after I find out if they have other publications that are translated and can ship together.

Best,

Dave

Again, everybody, I really appreciate all the comments and feedback. After all that, the customer called and said he wanted to sell the lock as is/was. He collects guns from the Jacobian revolt and really didn't have a use for this one. I took it to Friendship and it sold there for $1800 which is what the customer paid for it. I hope it turns into a cool project.

Was thinking more of a cannon to go with that lock.  Maybe a 3 or 4- pounder, lock mounted at the side.
