Where to buy - ‘fluted’ nose caps?
« on: September 08, 2022, 10:05:57 PM »
I love this fluted nose cap on a rifle I have that was allegedly built by the late Tip Curtis. Would anyone know where I can get other caps like this?

All of my muzzleloaders will shoot into one ragged hole ALL DAY LONG ... it's just the 2nd or 3rd & other shots that tend to open up my groups ... !

Thank you! Wouldn’t you know that’s the one catalog that I don't have and have been meaning to buy … should have known, LOL!

Filing the groves would give you a more authentic look since that’s how it was done on the originals that I have seen.
I can’t recall specific examples in books, but if I can locate one or two I’ll add them to this post.

On the originals, if they're filed, how thick would the metal be? The flutes look fairly deep.

HU,
I’ve never had the opportunity to exam one of the originals close enough to say how thick the nose cap is.
I would say that they are not as deeply sculpted as the one here.
They appear to be just a typical sheet brass nose cap with a series of grooves filed in.

the one pictured looks like pewter. would be easy to cast one and file the grooves in.
