small belt /riflemans axe
« on: March 25, 2023, 06:24:38 PM »
Something a little different to look at. This small axe has a 3 3/8 inch long head with a 2 inch wide blade. The hand forged head is mounted on a 12inch long hickory haft.  I don't know the age of this piece but haft and head have been together a long, long time
I may have posted this years ago if so please forgive me.  I looked in my old posts but could not find it.

Clearly blacksmith made, very nice. Also love that Oerter/Lehigh sideplate a lot.

Jim, that is one worth waiting in the bushes for. Nice, and a great find. The little ones seem to be far less common than the 'camp' sized axe. Thank you for letting us see it.

Thank's for the comments. I thought others might enjoy seeing it. A collector friend called me years ago. His brother in law had sent him a box of things he wanted him to sell for him.  I saw this and grabbed it first thing. also bought a colt 1911. weird combination .
Dick you are right they don't come around very often . This is the only one I've seen other than books.
Rich  I'll have more on the lock plate at another time.

Oh!  It does take a long time to chop firewood with this little thing .
