Congrats. Bear grease galore
Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning

Congratulations Bob! Nice camp, looks fairly warm there.

We had frost the last couple of nights, but it warms up to the 50's or even the 60's during the day

A fine bear and a darn fine camp. it looks like it's been up for a number of years. Anyone would be proud to have a camp like this. Where at, no exact location just the area of what state.

Eastern Ontario, 100 miles west of Ottawa.  Lots of hardwoods, lakes, and beaver ponds. Canadian Shield country.  My friend and I have seen 7 bears so far this season. They are like ghosts . You can hear deer approaching, but bears come and go like smoke.  I've had them woof at me, clack their teeth, and bounce up and down with the hair standing up on their necks and their ears back.  Sometimes they scare the cr*p out of me, but they are sure special to hunt....especially with a flintlock gun.  The last one I shot before this year was one that broke into my neighbour's house while she was in town. I got the call when she got home  :)

Yes Bears are as quiet as smoke. A few years ago I got two new hearing aids and started hearing them coming in, only when they were clacking their teeth. Still dont hear their foot steps.

I never did hunt bears as they are my totem animal.  I would also feel very bad if I did.  Blackies do not frighten me but they always get my highest respect.  I've only had one actual face to face encounter with one.

A friend and I were sitting side by side at the base of a tree hoping to see a deer.  An enormously fat bear came walking across right in front of us.  He noticed us and decided to come over and say "howdy".  This beautiful dude walked straight up to us and stared.  The ground we were on was a bit elevated so we were a bit higher than our friend.  The distance was still measured in feet.  After he satisfied himself that he indeed knew how to be courteous he resumed his walk.  He never went very far from us at all and at dark when we moseyed on back home he was still turning over logs & boulders looking for food.
