MAKING A BUCKS COUNTY AND HAVING TROUBLES CLEANING UP SMALL VOLUTES AT THE END OF CARVINGS, STRAIGHT LINES ARE GOOD BUT AT TE ENDS THERES SMALL VOLUTES THAT ARE A LITTLE SHAGGY. IS THERE ANY GOOD WAYS OF CLEANING THEM UP OTHER THAN ENLARGING THEM?

Sounds like the wood maybe a little soft. Try a emery board ( finger nail file). Use scissors if you need to cut it into a shape to get in tight places. Al

I often glue various grits of sandpaper onto frequently reshaped "tongue depressors" for detail work. Some are safe edged and some are not. I think I purchased the tongue depressors at a craft supply.

Cleaning up furry carving is the worst. Too late now (been there) but getting the chisels scary sharp and watching grain direction prevents a lot of such problems. If the carving is not too deep sometimes it’s better to take it off and start over. Requires careful re-shaping to not ruin the flow of the architecture.
