Need advice quick
« on: March 18, 2023, 02:22:26 AM »
Shooting in a match tomorrow it's benchrest weather is forecast at 19 degrees with 30 mph winds
Shooting 50 cal moody heavy bbl I shoot 70 fff at 60 normally
Holding 3/4 into target I'm at correct height question is should I increase powder chg to fight wind
I'm fairly good at reading wind any thoughts? (Other than stay home)

Changing the powder charge in any of my rifles will drastically change the group size and POI. If you can read the wind well, trust yourself to do that.

Shoot the best GROUPING load and read the wind.

Which way is the wind coming from?   In front?  Rear?  or side?  All that matters.

I would not change my load.

I don't normally give any value to a six or twelve o'clock wind. Quartering I'd give half value and from three or nine o' clock a full value. 30mph is quite a bit! One thing is that everyone will be fighting it. No matter what every round fired in any competition is experience well worth it.

Don't know if you do or can use wind flags, but they sure help you "dope" the wind once you learn to match the angle of the flag with your aim point on the target.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

LOL, you would probably say the same about shooting at 110 f.

Twist is 1/66 thanks for your help
After 10 rounds of 3 shots each I had a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd a pretty unpleasant day
Just held up about 1/2way into target we wore out the wind flags

Great shooting! You have much more stamina than I have.
