Has anyone tried to rust blue a flintlock? Can the hammer and frizzen be rust blued?

Yes.  Just brown(rust) and boil in water.

Not the lock but it should work OK.
I would have it case hardened in colors. Will result in a smoother, faster lock.
But thats just me.

Here's a link to one I rust blued --both lock and barrel-- in 1984.

The inside of the lock was left bright.
