Hei Runar!
It's a pleasure to see you and your cohorts use that rifling bench and use it so well. Such precision work with wooden tooling speaks volumes about your craftsmanship and serves as an inspiration for other builders.  I do enjoy the series of photos because it's like reading a good book--you look forward to reading the next chapter. Fine job.You and I both make chips and shavings with the barrel or lock
being a by product. That milling operation looks very fragile to me.The long
and unsupported shank of the end mill looks like a problem ready to happen.
Anyhow, keep on posting what you are doing.

Outstanding!!! Runar, Rolf and Bjorn, you have achieved another level of success.
This is a familiar scene that recently happen at Bookie's shop too. Tim and Jeff blew in from the northern snow range of Wisconsin for Jeff's first taste of rifling.

I had never seen this tread until today.

All the best,

Those barrels look great Runastav. I find this fascinating, being able to actually make and rifle a gun barrel with a relatively low tech manually operated tool. It's actually something that I think I would enjoy doing. Like I don't have enough things to waste time on already  :P

That looks great!  The grooves look wide, which I like.  What is the tooth count on your cutter? (Teeth per inch or centimeter). It looks very aggressive, but results look great.

Thank you Rich Pierce! The cutter is 1-1/4" long 8 teeth. The cutter base is 2,5mm wide which I like :)

Lovely work, Runar!

I made my cutter from an old file, and for some reason rounded the tooth a little on the non-cutting side.
Also rounded the actual cutting section, but that is just another style.

Runar,
I have seen guides made of steel ribbon in Scandinavia. Have you seen these or used this type?   The steel bar is twisted to for the rifling pitch, and must be re-indexed for each cut.

Best wishes
Richard.

I've seen pictures of a twisted square bar rifling guide somewhere as well, Richard.

Flott løp Runar, got å se benken i bruk.

Mvh
