New smooth rifle in .62
« on: July 09, 2023, 01:12:24 AM »
Just picked up this smooth rifle in .62 caliber from Track of the Wolf.
I think it might be a Freddie Harrison.
Any help to I.D. the maker would be good.
Straight taper barrel, sure balances and points naturally. I really do love a well made smoothbore.
I'm happy.
Now to run a few ball through it and see how she does.

Great engraving, just right.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Absolutely no doubt that Freddie Harrison made the gun. Probably a Richard Smith barrel. He was a good maker and a better friend. Congratulations

Ps, if you would happen to see a little bird engraved somewhere on it that’s another slam dunk identification marker.

Freddie’s work is always visually interesting and just plain cool.

Well, sent 40 or so round balls or so down range this afternoon. I am almost as happy as the day I picked up Mike's old Diamond Road Fulton English fowler from the Post Office and headed straight for the skeet range. Both of them are about as close to perfection as you can get.
It's been a good day.

IRC  Freddie usually had a bird in his engraving.

It looks timeless.
The engravings almost look like doodles, so enjoyable to look at.
Congrats on a really neat rifle!
