Completed CNC Carved Cherry Woodsrunner

Finished this one up today, it’s in .50 cal. I’m in the last finishing stages on the Maple.54 Woodsrunner.

That cherry came out nice. What stain and finish were used?

Bob, I mixed several diluted test batches of Laurel Mountain Cherry stain and denatured alcohol until I found what I like. I also started by brushing in bone black and alcohol into the incised lines, then wiping them back with alcohol. Then the stain and 3 coats of Tried & True. Thanks.

You are correct, this one is Cherry. I was just mentioning that I’m in the last phase of completing the Maple Woodsrunner I have too. It’s been on the bench for a while.

After building a Kibler Colonial for hunting I have no practical need for a second flintlock but after seeing this carved cherry Woodsrunner dang it I want one!

Looks like the bone black helps highlight the incised carving to a degree. I like the looks of it and overall that gun looks great ! Thanks for sharing it.

 Sure like those wide grooves and narrow lands. Should be easy loading with a snug combination.

"no practical need"???  What has need to do with anything related to collecting contemporary rifles/guns?

Well Al, considering that it’s a brand new rifle, only a few days old, you could definitely say it has a contemporary look to it.
