E. Koller Builder
« on: August 02, 2023, 03:03:28 PM »
Picked up two contemporary longrifles on an auction.  Both from the "E. Kollar" collection. The flintlock is .60 and percussion is .52(?). The latter has E. Kollar engraved on top barrel flat. Anyone familiar with the builder? Thanks in advance.

This may be information you are looking for:

Edward S. Kollar owned a fullstock J.S. Hawken rifle that perhaps may have been a flintlock in its earliest day. He wrote an article that appeared in the October 1979 issue of the Buckskin Report describing the rifle. As I understand, the rifle was lost to a house fire a few years later.

The features included a tang similar to the long tang Tennessee, a grease hole, trigger guard that looks similar to a Tatham English half stock that I saw in the Tower of London, it had a long length trigger bar for the guard to thread into, two tear drop side plates, brazed buttplate, all iron of course and maple stock having nice profile lines. Attractive to me at least.

The barrel was 38"s long and 50 caliber. i don't believe he stated the barrel diameter or the guns weight? English Warranted import lock from late flint period.

I don't know if he built some rifles as well back then?

Thanks, Ray. Seems he "may" have built the percussion rifle shiwn above.
