Attached is a photo of the interior of the patchbox of the upper rifle in the photo of my original post. You can judge for yourself whether the patchbox brass components were cast or not. The interior of the door is visible and does "appear" to have a rough casting look to it. Appearances can be deceiving, particularly in photography.
 


I'd say it's not a cast box. The door hinge is folded.

In general the cast boxes I have seen were all a bit heavier than this too.

Great observations Ian, thanks.

For the record I believe that you are quite correct. Particularly so if one compares the cross section of the door to the relatively thicker buttplate.
