1850 David Boyer PA long rifle
« on: December 06, 2023, 07:51:52 PM »
I just picked up this unmarked full stock PA long rifle. It’s been attributed to D Boyer of Orwigsburg PA and made circa 1850. I’m thrilled with my purchase.

It’s 45 cal. , 1:48 twist, 13” LOP, 39.5” barrel. Weighs about 7lbs 9 oz. It’s in perfect working order and a great bore. Faust and Winebrener Warrented lock I had intended to use it for deer hunting.

Took it deer hunting this weekend. Bang flop.

I’m wondering if anyone can give me anymore background on the maker and narrowing down when it was made.

I don’t know about Boyer, that that is a beautiful rifle, congrats! Looks to be in almost pristine condition.

That is pretty awesome - I'd clean up the bore, check out the breech and shoot that mother.

Nice job on the re-finish. I'd be shooting it too.

Greetings,

Not helpful in dating the O.P.'s rifle but related to David Boyer:  "Select Articles from the KRA Bulletin (Volume 1 thru 30)" contains an article titled "David Boyer, Schimmel Rifles of Berks County" authored by Timothy Lubenesky".  While simple rifles are the focus of the article is does also include a fully furnished Boyer rifle in some of the photographs.

Take Care,
Kevin
