Want to buy (not build) a smoothbore trade gun/fowler

What companies or builders with good reputation offer these? Had one several years ago...wish I had it back.

Danny Caywood and Clay Smith come to mind. A lot depends on your price range, style preference, and wait time. I could list a dozen or more custom builders but most are booked for 2 years or more. What do you intend to do with it? Gauge preference?  Some builders are cranking out fine, plainer guns and others like doing decorated guns with carving, wire inlays, engraving, and so on. You could pay from $1200 for a fine used contemporary smoothbore to $5000 on a new one depending on what you want and who made it. We can offer more specific advice when we have a better idea of what you’re shopping for.

Jim Chambers I think has something along that line in kit form that some builder could finish for you.

You might contact Rick Larnerd at Gobbler Knob longrifles, he builds a fowler. Tom Caster on this forum also builds a nice fowler at a fair price.

I'd prefer a .62/20g. Fancy details are not important to me, plain is fine. That is not to say I don't like options (Queen Anne lock etc). I'd be using it for hunting & just general all around fun. Appreciate the responses.

Peruse the “Items for Sale” section. The other Muzzleloading site has another For Sale listing as well. Some very nice fowlers and Fusils come up now and then, at good prices.

Why not out a want ad in the Classifieds with a list of what you want and a price range and see what you get.
