how to enlarge a stock

hi,
I found one CVA -Kentukyriflestock ,the two piece stock ,at the bulkywaste, now I need a good idea how to enlarge the rear part of the stock for use as a  cheap halfstock.

just for imagine what i´m talking about ( not mine)

I apologize if I am just wasting electrons, but hre's an idea:

Some stock carvers make full stocks that have breaks/bark inclusions, splits in the forestock. You can usually get one of these pretty cheap. Cut it short to make your half stock.

Do you have just the rear stock wood? Any hardware? lock & trigger? barrel?

While ugly...this kit can actually be made into a GOOD shooter. Many of us started with such a kit...and boy were we proud of it!

I have the hole stock all hardware and I have one percusion lock and one barrel  rusting around in the garage but I hate the look of that brass link and I search a way to join fore and rear stock without that brass link.
The guy´s from my shooting club allways ask for the team but I have only flinters.

I´m in Germany there is no cheap in sending big and long parts from the U.S.

.43- I joined one of those stocks back in the '70's with wooden dowel pins a nd wood glue. I left the brass piece out and stained it real dark, the joint was very hard to see...Ed

What about installing a hooked breech and keys to make it into a take-down buggy gun?
Now that is a too much work crazy idea.

I think the dowels suggested above would work but for me would be sort of tricky drilling.  However I think I would inlet and glue in a large cross section block of similar wood from the barrel channel side  to join the forend piece to the rest of the stock. (Use a piece of the unused forend from forward of the half stock.)   Then redrill the ramrod hole through it, which should be pretty simple since you already have a guide hole in the forward secton; and clean up the the barrel inlet.  If you are still concerned about stability of the joint have a barrel lug in both sections of the forend.  Once mounted the barrel  supports the wood anyway.  Make sure your jointed ends are well matched before you glue it up.

Fore stocks on fowlers were mended/lengthened in the following way.

Looking at the side view of the stock - cut a long slope say starting below the front lock pannel angled up to the top of the barrell channel and an opposite corresponding long slope on the fore stock.  This will give you a long glue surface.
Make the joint without gaps & stain dark when finished.

Your fore arm could end up a little short but it would be in one piece

OK, I've done a couple of these for guys and left out that hokey brass spacer. Seems like the pieces were already dowel drilled at that time. If not a groove can be cut in the bottom of the brrl. channel on both sides and a dowel or rod glued in for strength. Just used an epoxy glue with some brown tint (artists oil paints work) added in miniscule amounts.
If you are handy with wood you can add onto the rear of the stock for more pull length, but it will NEVER match up with that wood, or look good.

Thanks for the hints after geeting the old varnish from  that stock I will try that joining with dowels and epoxy glue.
