Options for Smoothbore barrel for T/C hawken

I have a T/C PA Hunter, .50 cal.
So, Bobby Hoyt increased the original barrel to .54 cal and that works great.
Also, he made a .62 cal/20 ga smoothbore barrel for it.
Not being a flint lock fan, I replaced the L & R replacement flintlock with a L & R Replacement Percussion lock and added a drum and nipple to the barrels and it shoots great now.
I see no problems with the 20 ga barrel.

John, I don't know the T/C PA Hunter that well. What is the barrel size..15/16"...1"..?

20 bore and drum and nipple makes for a thin barrel wall for a .54 rifle, doesn't it?
Of course, even thinner in 20 bore, but the pressure is much lower in the 'pelter'.(pellet shooter)

Not as dangerous if one screws the drum into the original Thompson Center patent breech touchhole by enlarging it from 1/4x 28 to 5/16 x 24 or larger.  Much safer than directly into a thin barrel wall for sure.

Yes of course. I was thinking into the side of a barrel. A patent breech would be much better, if having a smaller inside "chamber" hole than the groove diameter.

 Seems like a heck of a lot of worry and expense for a Tc Hawken. It could easily be done by virtually and machine shop with an adjustable ream.
