Kemper Rifle...

    Took my Cornell Kemper German silver mounted, all-but unfired circa 1980 .45 caliber rifle to the range today. Tried several combinations, but as suggested in a thread on this site, she was happiest with a wadded-up patch loaded under the patched ball. Ball patches came out all but intact, five-shot group (three touching) was well centered, and last rounds loaded as easily as the first. 55 grains of FFFg. Shall next vary powder charges to tighten the groups. Any other suggestions?

Nice - more shooting, more testing. L&R lock I see.
My .45 liked 65gr. 3F with a water based lube, .445" balls and 10 thou denim patches, no patch between powder and ball.
With a slippery lube, it needed 75gr. 3F.

Cornel Kemper made some nice rifles. Most were straight barreled. I don't understand the need for a waded up patch below the patched ball.
Try different lubes., and different patch material. You didn't state what size ball you are using. You may want to try different sized balls.

Lots of shooters claim better accurate shots With some protection between powder & ball patch , I for one use this method I also wipe the bore between shots even with a very wet patch .
