Rifles and Muskets of the Enfield/Bess variety I do believe were designed to aim with the body facing the enemy (shooters body 90 degrees to the weapon's barrel). When you aim an Enfield/Bess like this you can sight down the barrel/sights better.  Like a healed up scalped head "It feels mighty queersome" to aim your weapon like that. Plus, it feels like you're standing in a strain.

At one of our annual shoots the range officer called for a trade gun shoot. All smooth bore shooters lined up on the line and the range officer then said every one " trade guns " with the shooter on the right. I traded my NWG 24ga to the shooter on my left and got a 20 FDC from the shooter on my other side. It hurt!  Never cared for that style after that.😝

Appreciate all the input guys. I picked up a copy of For Trade and Treaty. Very informative. I've decided to go with the fusil de chasse. Hopefully be able to start later this year. Thanks again
