Two muskets like that were recovered from the 1733 plate Fleet wrecks in the Florida Keys.  Both were dated 1703 on the tail of the locks and one was signed T. Avstin and the other was signed T. Fort.  The butt plates were brass sheet metal and nailed on.  James Levy

Woof and Arf ;D.Self releasing latch and fine workmanship.This mechanism needs no half cock in the tumbler and had NO "fly"problem.

Dog locks are cool, I love them. I have built a couple. The big problem with them is an incredibly slow lock time. Looonngg hammer throw! It's period correct lock time though! ;D
