Need help with a cracked main spring
« on: April 15, 2024, 12:55:26 AM »
Unfortunately, the main spring on this antique lock has failed. Can this be welded and repaired or will this require a new main spring? If it requires a new spring, is there someone out there that can reproduce this spring, especially the placement of the “pin” that fits in the lock plate?
Thanks very much,
Tom

As my Dad used to say, “it needs a new one.”  Cabin Creek is the go-to for many In need of lock help. Can’t hurt to call and ask.

Hi,
That looks to be a British military lock and that spring was a crude replacement. What does the other side of the lock look like?

The lock/musket came out of Nepal.

Hi,
Ok, a Nepalese copy of a late pattern British military flintlock, hence the crude spring.  Have you contacted IMA-USA.com to see if they have any replacement springs?

IMA doesn’t have these springs on their web site. I know Alex and thought about asking him to rummage through the piles of locks and parts to find a replacement. The problem is these locks have lots of hand fitted parts and finding a proper fit will be challenging. I already have a couple of these springs, but the fit is way off.
