Day 6:The Museum and Library Committee plans a 12 Day Holiday Spectacular celebrating the First Anniversary of the ALR Museum and Library and  the "Community of Collectors" efforts to promote the study and collection of the "Kentucky Longrifle". To date we have exhibited more than 250 guns; probably the largest and most varied collection of longrifle exhibits ever presented publicly. This was only accomplished because of the support of the collecting community; we thank them and wish them the best for the coming years. We hope others will join in in the future

When and Where is the exhibit?

Henry Ledford (1796-1856). gunsmith. Davidson County, North Carolina. On 9 February 1829 Stephen Porter, an orphan boy, was apprenticed to Ledford to be taught the art and mysteries of a gunsmith. In 1850 Philip Stanley was noted in Ledford’s household, probably an apprentice. Others in the household included Catharine, his wife, 48; Franklin, 15; and Samuel, 28, a physician. Bivins thought Ledford was apprenticed to a gunsmith in Salem [M.E.S.D.A.; Bivins, 160; U.S. Census].
