For Sale: Original Brown Bess circa: 1810-1812
« on: November 05, 2024, 06:51:24 AM »
This is an original British Ordnance 3rd. model Brown Bess. Some times called the "India pattern" Brown Bess because it was marketed to B.O. through the East India company.  It Complete with original British Ordinance stamps, Tower Lock, 39" original .720" barrel. socket bayonet with scabbard, original #12 Ga. scissor Mould, and a paper back history of the Brown Bess by A. Darling.  This gun is quite safe to shoot with light loads such as 12 ga. shotgun slugs for hunting big game. I've had the breech plug out and the threads are like new! The frizzen has been resoled with a piece of file and a leather sling has been added. I have taken a number of deer with this musket.  $ 2,300 plus shipping and handling!  Thanks for looking again. HT.

It appears from the research that I have done that the #72 on the breech plug tang shows ownership by the King's 72nd. regiment afoot.  This regiment was posted to Nova Scotia mid 1800's.  This fits as to some provenance to this gun as I obtained it in Canada some 40 rys. ago.  Also the # 6 on the breech tang is a British Ordinance inspector's proof mark for the breech .HT.

One further item of provenance about this piece is the company that stocked it:  William Brander,  It is signed in the Ram Rod channel.  See his trade label attached.
