coin silver repair
« on: December 29, 2009, 05:48:23 AM »
Somebody has got to have done this.
I was installing a silver coin thumbpiece to my fowler after the Ehlert tradition of bedding it with epoxy and filing it flush to the stock. Upon filing it, one corner became paper thin and flaked off.  Dang!
Does someone have tricks for patching it up so the repair is minimal?
Thanks
Ryan

Heat a brass punch with a clean face near red hot and press it on the silver. At about 400 degrees the bond will break and you can remove the silver if you did not pin it as well.

Thanks Dan,
With a little torch heat, it came right off.
Now I will make a new inlay.
Thanks
