Polish flintlockpistol?
« on: August 01, 2024, 10:09:57 PM »
I have always been interested in early Polish arms even though I collect Identified Rev War items. I just got this pistol and need help. It is a very well made pistol of the last quarter of the 18th century. The workmanship is extraordinary with fine deeply cut engraving and crisp relief carving just about everywhere you could put carving on a pistol. The steel mounts are highly polished and look like silver. The wood to metal fit is very good. The condition is very fine. It has a Polish name, W Dabrowski, on the top of the barrel. These are the only markings. It is a small pistol- 9 inches long with a 4 3/4 inch octagonal to round smoothbore barrel. I don't know what the wood is. It may have been made for a military man as it has three panoply of arms on it- the lock, the triggerguard and the sideplate. The quality of the gun suggests a rich man or someone important. It seems to have some German influence. It may be a Polish flint pistol. Any help would be appreciated.

Fine looking pistol for sure.Few of us ever associate Poland with any antique guns. There was a spoof pistol that had the muzzle pointed at the shooter that was labeled as a Polish target pistol. I saw it at a booth in Friendship.Thank you for showing this unusual pistol.
