New shot pouches

I have been working on some new pouches for my first table display at the 18th Century Artisan in Lewisburg, February 5 and 6, 2010.  Please stop by my table and say Hello.

#14 - 7" by 7" square pouch
 




#15 - 7 1/2" by 6 1/2" double D shaped pouch





#16 - 9" by 6" modified kidney shaped pouch





#17 - 9" by 7" double pouch based on the original Isaac Getz fox face bag with a modified pierced flap.  This pouch was my Dad's Christmas present this year.







#18 - 7 1/2" by 6 1/2"double D shaped pouch





#19 – 6 1/2" by 7" acorn or heart shaped pouch

You sure do good work. Maybe after I practice a bunch I will be able to get one to look near that good.

I really like your Dad's bag.  I like the flap design, even without the piercings.  What are the dimensions of the bag?  Do you have any other views of it?

If you will buy TC Albert's book and read it he will tell you how to get the even stiches. My wife got it for me for Christmas and I made a knife sheath with the even straight stiches. She also got me the Silbey book on horns, now if I can master that.

Dr. Tim:  

I purchased T.C. Albert's book at the CLA show 2 years ago and this past August I spent 3 days working with Frank Willis. The time spent with Frank was a huge jump on the learning curve for me. I use a lacing groover or dividers to layout the line of my stitching, then I use an overstich wheel to mark the stitch spacing. The next step is to punch the stitch holes with your awl as precisely as possible. You want every hole to be the same size and same alignment as the previous hole. The when you stitch you want to put your needles through from the same side and same place in the lace hole everytime. And finally you need to pull the thread snug with the same pressure every stitch. Frank really impressed upon me the need to be accurate and meticulous through the entire process. The big thing is practice, practice.  I have made 19 pouches now and I still have a lot of practicing to do.

Very nice work Eric. I can definitely see Frank's influence. Those double pouches look great! Look forward to seeing them in February at Lewisburg.
