Another Screw Tip
« on: January 05, 2010, 06:31:15 PM »
The basic design for this came from page 137 in Grinslade's Powder Horns, Documents Of History
It is about 12" around the outside curve. The Walnut base is held in four wooden pegs. The tips is horn, threaded 1/2-13, it is about 2 3/3" long. Staples in base and neck for straps, colored with AF, base has an oil finish.

Great looking horn Tim especially with the effort put into the coloring.

That's pretty dang neat Tim.  I like the way it takes an otherwise short and stubby horn, and makes it into a handsome one.

Tim,
That is an impressive horn.  I really like the screw tip.  I've got to get busy and  turn some more tips. This afternoon I am making a couple more threading guides modeled after Art's.  I'll try a dark tip from a chunk of horn I have laying around.  It's been whining to be made into something.
