Opinions on my latest blade find please
« on: September 28, 2024, 11:40:27 PM »
Picked this up recently.  Just can't help myself.

Full tapered tang.  Pinned.  Bolster looks forged integral to the blade as far as I can tell.  Cannot believe how sharp and thin the blade is towards the front.

Curious as to era and any other info.  Personally, I think its really nifty!

Thank you!

Well, will reply to my own as I did hear back from the state archeologist on this.  He also conferred with one of his sources.  And based on what they know the blade is somewhere between 1835 and 1890. Due to construction, configuration and the stamp. Along with other items.

So, not bad.  Not fur trade as it is too new.  Knew it "could not be" colonial. With a nudge to the earlier side of the range.

But still a nifty blade for sure.

Seems right. Chuck Burrows used to be our expert in such things but he has passed to the other side.
