what style of smoothbore is this?
« on: October 19, 2024, 09:45:07 PM »
I'm thinking about getting this newer made  smoothbore, and would appreciate any info about it. Time period, region, style etc..
My best guess is an English export gun/trade gun from 1760 ish? Am I close?
Seems like a nice one anyways.

Yeah. It looks like a nice one. I don't know that much about it except it has a Chamber's lock and it's 20 ga. I hope I can get it in the auction for a good price.

I seem to recognize most of the parts Justin, and it looks very well put together.

the recess under the muzzle isn't something I like or have seen to this extent, but it's not hurting anything
The pipes are a bit turn of the century even for export I think, but it may be me living a sheltered life!

Inletting is very good!

I have to agree with the "export look" as well.  The signature on the barrel looks like it might have been built by R.L. "Butch" Darrell?  I remember seeing his work in Muzzleloader Magazine back in the late 90's.  He was a heck of a gun builder.
