First horn of the new year

Here's a horn I just finnished for a client. It has a lead reinforced tip like the origanal that I took most of the designs from. Its the first time I have used lead for a tip reinforcement. I know it was done quite often in the old days but I would rather use brass. The lead makes the tip very heavy and I don't like the balance. It may not matter with the horn full of powder. It does look cool though or at least I think so.

This is the kind of horn I love to make simple with folky engraving. Something plain folks would have.

Great job Brian and I agree with Tim, must have been a coastal guy in the old days.
Dan, yes you can.  I believe Tim has counseled on us on casting pewter in place for tips.

The gentleman wanted a horn that was from the northeast. Something that could have been at the Louisbourg seige. The reason for the lead is it oxidizes fairly quick and since he wanted an aged horn I like lead over pewter.
