Saw these deer from about 1 mile away they had come to the top of the ridge while I was hunting another piece of state land.
Got to the pickup, moved it 1/4 mile. Cut around about 1/2 mile and stalked for another 400+ yards part time walking on my knees in 12" of snow. Stalking another young buck this one got in the way. I had actually walked past him.
Fun hunt. 1/2 mile drag to the road barely visible, not fun.
Related to show that "stands" are not really an option. You gotta get out and walk the hills where I live.
Shot was about 40 yards BTW, he dropped off the steep hill and stopped too look look back. I eased to the edge and shot him.
This is taken about where I shot the deer. I saw then from about the center the photo coming back from a small creek just short of the trees in the distance.
