Good start to the New Year

Just finished this up. Need to shoot it and regulate the sights to get it close, then the owner can take it from there. The barrel is an unknown make, but I think I know where it came from, as it has some features that I recognize from his shop. The barrel is almost 36 inches long and is tapered: 7/8's at the breech to 3/4" at the muzzle, at least that's what I think. The lock is a Chambers late Ketland that's been modified. An older set of Davis set triggers, an old Reeves Goerhing butplate, and an antique triggerguard. The stock came from a dear friend (since departed). The patchbox is copied from an original that briefly wandered in to the Log Cabin and the owner permitted me to take a rubbing of it. The inlays on the cheek side were gleaned from Samual Fairies and one of the Teaf's from the East Liverpool Ohio area.
The idea was to craft a rifle that would have been made in Ohio during the late flint time period. Adding the brass on the tail of the lock was something I thought about and executed, but wasn't really necessary. It's okay, just not needed, it's just added sparkle. The inlays along the forstock are pretty common items found on many Ohio rifles. All that's needed is to do a bit of shooting and off she goes to a new home.

That is a fun gun in so many ways. I wouldn’t be bored sitting on a deer stand with that one. Lots to look at and enjoy.

That is a very nice rifle with good lines. I'm not familiar with Ohio rifles but I do like this one!
