What happened to Jerrows?
« on: January 20, 2025, 10:09:05 PM »
I see discontinued or out of stock from suppliers for the in-letting black. I love this product and prefer it afters yrs of using it. Has it gone the way of Permalyn sealer also?

Don't know, but probably so.  Recent thread on this topic (link below).  I don't know if this is the same black in the thread, but I bought some from Liza Kindig at the Gunmakers fair this summer.  It works just as well if not better than the Jerrows.  Little jar should last a dozen builds or so.

I use lipstick. I like the street corner red lol. If you prefer black they have Gothic black.   Al

I used Jerrow's for a long time; then switched to Prussian Blue, which I like better.  It's easy to work with, and not as messy as Jerrow's black.  And I can get it at O'Reilly auto parts.

Have you tried dry erase markers?  I use it which works for me.  It isn't messy at all and doesn't penetrate as deep as inletting black.  Get a pack of the markers at Walmart and store them nose down on the bench. Use about one for the tang inlet and one for the butt plate.

I made the original post and over the last 50 yrs I have used everything one could imagine. I just became fond of Jerrows using Q tips for small parts and a acid brush on barrels. I just wondered why we lost another product for out trade. Markers, and Prussian blue still get used as needed.

The short answer is the wide point sharpie. I never use Jerrows anymore. It probably saved my marriage. I don’t come out of the shop looking like a coal miner any more.
